According to the requirements of metallographic specimen preparation, appropriate mounting resins can be chosen to meet the needs of the process.
1.Hot Mounting Resin: This type of resin is commonly used in TOP TECH’s metallographic hot mounting technique. It possesses excellent penetration and filling properties, allowing it to fully fill the fine pores in the sample, enhancing sample stability and hardness. This resin is suitable for general metallographic preparation and ensures the shape and structure of the sample remains stable, making the preparation process easier to control.
2.Acrylic Powder: Acrylic powder is another common mounting resin choice that provides good transparency, enabling clear observation of the sample's surface and internal structure. This is particularly useful for metallographic analysis that requires observation of subtle microstructures and crystal structures. Under appropriate preparation conditions, high-quality prepared samples can be obtained.
3.Conductive Mounting Resin: Conductive mounting resin is primarily used in metallographic specimen preparation processes that require conductivity, such as SEM (Scanning Electron Microscope) observation or electrolytic etching. This type of resin features good conductivity, reducing static effects during SEM observation, resulting in a clearer sample surface. Additionally, conductive resin is suitable for use in electrolytic etching to remove oxides or residues from the metallographic specimen preparation process, obtaining more accurate results.
